wild soundscapes, The voice of the natural world

legendary soundscapes uncover nature’s rich sonic tapestry

soundscape is a sound or combination of sounds that forms or arises from an immersive environment. The study of soundscape is the subject of acoustic ecology
The idea of soundscape refers to both the natural acoustic environment, consisting of natural sounds, including animal vocalizations and, for instance, the sounds of weather and other natural elements; and environmental sounds created by humans, through musical compositionsound design, and other ordinary human activities including conversation, work, and sounds of mechanical origin resulting from use of industrial technology.

Bernie Krause has been recording wild soundscapes -- the wind in the trees, the chirping of birds, the subtle sounds of insect larvae -- for 45 years. In that time, he has seen many environments radically altered by humans,

sometimes even by practices thought to be environmentally safe.

A surprising look at what we can learn through nature's symphonies, from the grunting of a sea anemone to the sad calls of a beaver in mourning.
